Sometimes, above all if you work in a company which gives you laptops and desktop PCs to work with, the USB ports of your computer may be disabled for security reasons. In fact, this method is used (among with other security limitations) to avoid espionage or more simply, to reduce the risk of infecting computers using unknown files installed by the user himself. Of course, this restriction also limits the user who in this way won’t be able to use any external devices or USB drives. This easy tutorial will explain you how to enable USB port ( windows 7 & XP ) in a cuople of steps.
  1. Click Start.
  2. In the Search field, type regedit and press Enter.
  3. Locate the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services/UsbStor
  4. In the right-pane, double-click the Start key to open it.
  5. Change its hexadecimal value from 4 to 3.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Restart the computer for the change to take effect.
