Disk Cleanup (cleanmgr.exe) is a computer maintenance utility included in Microsoft Windows 7 designed to free up disk space on a computer's hard drive. The utility first searches and analyzes the hard drive for files that are no longer of any use, and then removes the unnecessary files. There are a number of different file categories that Disk Cleanup targets when performing the initial disk analysis:

• Compression of old files
• Temporary Internet files
• Temporary Windows file
• Downloaded Program files
• Recycle Bin
• Removal of unused applications or optional Windows components
• Setup Log files
• Offline files

The Disk Clean up utility have also option to Schedule the Disk Cleanup Automatically after a time specified in Windows 7 and also in Windows Xp. Go to Run and Type Cleanmgr.exe and a popup window will be open you can select any folder and can clean unnecessary files also you can compress the existing files according to your requirement.

• Click Start.
• In the Search Field, type cmd and press Enter.
• Now, type cleanmgr /sageset:1 in the Command Prompt and hit Enter.
• Once you have gained access to the full Disk Cleanup utility, select the folder you wish to clean.
• Click OK.
• Let’s schedule the Disk Cleanup to run automatically at a certain time of day of the week, month etc.
• Click Start – All Programs – Accessories – System Tools – Task Scheduler.

• From the right-pane, click Task Scheduler.

• Give a name to the new task and click the Next button.

• Select how often you want to automatically run Disk Cleanup and click the Next button.

• Go ahead and set other parameters (such as time frame etc.)
• Select Start a Program and click Next.
• Now, click the browse button and look for the program named cleanmgr, and double click it.
• In the Add Argument (optional) box, type: /sagerun:1 and click Next.
• Click Finish.
